Mixed modelling assumes pollution generation follows a typical Australian urban catchment and is suitable for modelling catchments over 10 ha. Split catchment modelling separates pollution generation based on surface type (example: roof, road & ground/landscape) and is recommended for smaller catchments below 10ha. Split approach is recommended as it provides a more accurate representation of the site. Note that split catchment modelling requirements differ between Authorities. JCO makes it easy as our list of catchments are configured to appropriately match each Authority’s guidelines based on project address.

One file is the MUSIC model file (msf). The other one is a JC Online file – basically a link to the JC server which will load up your saved model.

Any complete MUSIC file is made of two parts. The msf is only one part. If you don’t already have the meteorological template, it can be downloaded from JC Online by pressing the “cloud” button . Please place both your *.msf file and the meteo template in the same folder for seamless opening in MUSIC.

YES. When submitting to Council, please include the msf file (MUSIC model) with your JC Online Report. All JC Online msf files are created in accordance with Authority Guidelines. Authority cannot* reject these files and none have been rejected to date. If anyone in Authority rejects a JC Online/STORMupdated project, please contact us immediately and we will sort this problem for you. *Please make sure Civil drawings comply with your model. If Civil drawings propose to build something that is not in accordance with the model, we cannot help.

We pre-load all Authority-specific parameters in the node – based on the project’s location. This means every single project will comply with the guidelines. You cannot build a node that doesn’t comply with the guidelines – this will save you a lot of time, and Authority can check it easier.

No. JC Online preloads all Authority-specific parameters in the model. JC also provides limits to parameters (as per Council and/or Engineering guidelines). For example, Bioretention EDD cannot be too high – plants will drown and die. This is why EDD is limited in the JC Online interface.

This may occur due to the Authority not accepting the device as an option to treat stormwater quality. Another reason could be that the device manufacturer is not yet implemented in JCO. In this case, please have them contact us to discuss implementation. Alternatively, consider using another treatment device from our extensive list.

Right click on the modelling canvas and go to “Background image” tab. This will provide options to add/remove/resize background image. Or press the “Background image” button.

Hold pressed the “Ctrl” key. Then click on any empty part of the canvas and (while holding pressed), move the cursor. Alternatively, scroll in/out with the cursor towards the edges of the screen.

Yes. We have undo/redo functionality. Undo is “Ctrl+Z” and Redo is “Ctrl+Y”

Yes. Click and drag to create a box. All nodes in that box will be selected.

Yes. Right-Click anywhere in the box you used to select the nodes and press “Add Links”. Then double click on the destination node.

The treatment nodes are clustered based on their purpose. Normally we would have a primary/secondary device handling Gross Pollutants and larger suspended solids (like pebbles/coarse sediment), after which we use a device which targets the finer sediment and dissolved pollutants.

Sometimes, although it is not recommended. For example, you could place a bioretention right after a catchment. Many professionals do. However, it should be noted that gross pollutants entering the bioretention lead to very unsightly urban environments. Additionally, sediment entering the bio will clog the filter media which means the bio will stop working soon. It is always recommended that at least a sediment forebay be built prior to the bio.

For rainwater tanks servicing roofs, devices that protect the rainwater tanks from GPs are installed as part of the building process and don’t need to be modelled. For rainwater tanks servicing large catchments which may include trafficable areas etc., a device such as a GPT should be used to protect the tanks.

Different Manufactured Devices are approved by different Councils. Moreover, two Councils can approve different performance for the same Manufactured Device. JC Online knows this and each Manufactured Device available is pre-loaded if accepted by Council, with the reductions Council accepts.

We work with all the reputable Device Manufacturers in Australia. Please ask the manufacturer to contact us.

We recommend looking at the “node water balance” by Right-Click on a treatment node. This will show that node’s performance.

It means Legal Point of Discharge. It is where all the flows go – it’s same as a “Receiving” node.
